Esphar Medical Center was founded in 1954 as a single proprietorship owned and managed by Francisco D. Espiritu. The company is engaged in the manufacture, maintenance, distribution and retail of hospital equipments and later expanded into selling medical supplies.
With several product innovations and patents, and brisk business the company has expanded its operations and was incorporated in 1971 as Esphar Medical Center, Inc.
From its main branch in Rizal Avenue, Sta. Cruz, Manila, Esphar opened another branch in Bambang St., and later in Tayuman St., all in Manila, to cater to a wider clientele. Each branch has its own showroom that showcase top-of-the-line products.
Esphar also opened a manufacturing plant and warehouse in Valenzuela, Bulacan for the manufacture of Esphar-made products that has become widely used in government and private hospitals and healthcare centers/clinics throughout the country. Among the Esphar patented products are the "EMC" Autoclave Sterilizer and the Infant Incubator.
The healthcare industry saw a tremendous growth in the 1980s and Esphar's new management anticipated this growth and with its pioneering spirit adopted innovative approaches by offering high-quality imported and locally manufactured equipment at very competitive prices and supported by quality service through the company's Service Centers manned by Esphar-trained Biomedical engineers.
And to bring its products and services closer to remote locations, a branch in Davao City and another in Cagayan De Oro City in Mindanao were opened to cover the Visayas and Mindanao areas. Aside from the main store and showroom, the branch also has its own warehouse for inventories coming from Manila. It is an independent operation that brings in substantial revenue stream from the Southern Philippines.
The 1990s brought about more projects for Esphar and it never failed to capitalize on these opportunities. Several special projects were secured from the Department of Health (DoH) where Esphar supplied various equipments from Autoclave Sterlizers, Suction Apparatus, Sanitary Units to hospital beds and other major equipments.
And to keep pace with healthcare technology, Esphar re-engineered several equipments to adopt new design technologies in infant incubators, laboratory ovens, digital temperature controllers among others.
Esphar also engaged in customizing ambulances and mobile clinics for private corporations and hospitals, and government agencies and municipalities. The flexibility in the configuration of these ambulances and mobile clinics ensures that customized vehicles are delivered on-time and within budget.
Esphar is committed to bring its products and services to the 21st century by further expanding its operations to meet ever-growing demand in the private and public sector. Special attention has been made on new healthcare regulations by the Department of Health which requires hospitals and clinics to have their equipments calibrated and certified annually. To help comply with these regulations/guidelines, Esphar invested in specialized equipment that guarantees accurate calibration of medical equipments e.g., X-ray, Anesthesia, and Ultrasound machines, and to certify them as fit for use.
Esphar formally launched a new Biomedical Division in 2006 that specializes in the calibration of medical equipments. A special team of biomedical engineers will put focus on the company's move into managed services with the sole purpose of providing outsourced maintenance services to its customers thereby alleviating them from maintenance issues e.g., unscheduled equipment downtime and unpredictable cost of maintenance.
